How do you get the trees in Terragen 2? Do you use objects for that, or what?

yes they are models i create in xfrog or onyx tree im familiar with both of those programs^^.
i then import them in with the textures play around with the translucency and the alpha maps then add them to the terragen population (sort of like vues ecosystem) and now you can render them at (ultra quality) and have them ray traced so now your models have the quality of vray and iray with the best natural environment creating tools on th market

Terragen is one powerful piece of software!

(((That's almost enough to make me turn to the evil Terragen side of the Force!... being a *cough* loyal Vue customer *cough*...))) Love those cliff shapes. The design, curves and shapes contained within the picture are extremely harmonious - excellently constructed image. Great colour, lighting and atmospheric effects - love that low cloud layer. Even that star is great. Inspiring picture.
